-THE GLORIES OF BHARATA VARSHA-
So we are here in the material world pop wahhhhhhhhhhh and our sojourn begins, how did we get here ? How are we so fortunate ? and why are we so miserable ? .
As sure as we are born so shall we die ! Yet lord Sri Krsna is explaining to Arjuna .
Bg 2.26 — If, however, you think that the soul [or the symptoms of life] will always be born and die forever, you still have no reason to lament, O mighty-armed.
Bg 2.27 — One who has taken his birth is sure to die, and after death one is sure to take birth again. Therefore, in the unavoidable discharge of your duty, you should not lament.
We are struggling to enjoy and this is the cause of our lamentable condition our material attachments, we should not lament, but who understands this life is temporary and that we will take birth again . No we are too absorbed in trying to enjoy the material opulences of this world .
Bg 2.44 — In the minds of those who are too attached to sense enjoyment and material opulence, and who are bewildered by such things, the resolute determination for devotional service to the Supreme Lord does not take place.
We are carried away by lust !
Bg 2.60 — The senses are so strong and impetuous, O Arjuna, that they forcibly carry away the mind even of a man of discrimination who is endeavoring to control them
So we suffer so much due to our material attachments .
Bg 2.62 — While contemplating the objects of the senses, a person develops attachment for them, and from such attachment lust develops, and from lust anger arises.
Bg 2.63 — From anger, complete delusion arises, and from delusion bewilderment of memory. When memory is bewildered, intelligence is lost, and when intelligence is lost one falls down again into the material pool.
Sometimes we enjoy sometimes we suffer, for every action there is a reaction, that we cannot escape Dharmaraj is watching us, his scribes under Citragupta are recording our every action and we will have to suffer and enjoy accordingly !This is how we take birth in this material world due to our desires to enjoy, we take birth in heaven, or we reign in hell as the enjoyers of our well deserved sinful reactions. There is no point blaming god for our actions or thanking him for our enjoyments when we are the agents of our own whims .Krsna has many representatives who are busily engaged facilitating all our material desires, yet when we want to approach him personally we will have to approach his direct representatives.Sri Guru knows his heart, because they have captured his, Sri Guru holds the key to unlocking Krsna's heart .Nevertheless sometimes we may gain the favor of his representatives and by that good fortune obtain darsana of the lord .
King Nrga gave so much charity to brahmins but still one cow swapped herds to a rival brahmins herd and a dispute over ownership was created . No matter how he tried to pacify the brahmins neither would give up there pride and relinquish ownership of the cow . Thus king Nrga committed the sins of offending the brahmins and for that he had to suffer some punishment and come back as a lizard . Yamaraj the superintendent of death, the empowered incarnation of justice, sentenced the king to suffer his punishment by taking birth as a lizard. It seemed unfair yet he took birth in Lord Krsna's pastimes within Bharata varsha and by the touch of lord krsna he assumed the form of a demigod and ascended to swarga to enjoy his pious reactions as a demigod .Even though we will have to suffer or enjoy we can be fortunate by taking birth in Bharata varsha, because there is no greater opportunity to meet Sri Krsna in this material world then there is in Bharata varsha .Even the demigods are praying for this opportunity !
SB 5.19.21 — Since the human form of life is the sublime position for spiritual realization, all the demigods in heaven speak in this way: How wonderful it is for these human beings to have been born in the land of Bhārata-varṣa. They must have executed pious acts of austerity in the past, or the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself must have been pleased with them. Otherwise, how could they engage in devotional service in so many ways? We demigods can only aspire to achieve human births in Bhārata-varṣa to execute devotional service, but these human beings are already engaged there.
One time Muṇḍaka Rṣi went to Yama-loka and said, “Mahārāja, I have tried to do bhajana in my life, and did not waste one moment. I chanted my mantra, Gāyatrī, performed japa and vrata, only took dry leaves and water, and would not harm any being. I would try to filter out any insects from the water, and would even filter air before I breathe so as not to hurt anything. I would control my breath for many minutes before breathing, trying not to disturb any other living beings. I would perform my gāyatrī-mantra with great concentration, meditating on Parābrahma. Why have you punished me? What is my fault?”
Yāma Mahārāja asked, “O Citragupta, look at your reports of his life. Look at his past karma.” Muṇḍaka Rṣi said, “In my life I have performed bhajana, and you sent the king’s soldiers, who came and bound me, saying I was a thief. They said, “You stole the king’s property.” They put me on top of a pointed poll, trying to bifurcate me. Why did this punish come to me, when I always used my body for God’s service?
Then they looked in the report and said, “In your childhood, you grabbed a firefly and pushed a thorn into his backside, and then tied him on a rope, and when he flew, you were very happy.” At that time, I was younger than five years of age. I had no intelligence. Why did you punish me like this? You should also go to mṛtyu-loka, the abode of death. You will then understand the situation there. Here you are Yamarāja, the king, and do not understand the worries of the people on Earth.” Being cursed by Muṇḍaka Ṛṣi, Yamarāja took birth on Earth as the son of Vyāsadeva, Vidura.By the arrangement of providence he was fortunate and had an opportunity to take birth in Bharata varsha and associate with Sri Krsna .Lord Yamaraj is an empowered devotee of the lord so this pastime was created to instruct us that in this world even the demigods are temporary positions, that one may fall down from at any moment and also to arrange for his devotees to meet with lord Krsna and assist him in his pastimes on earth.
So Krsna is performing his pastimes and as we surrender to him he rewards us accordingly. Sri Krsna has some opulence as god he possesses all opulence, yet Krsna of vraja is not seemingly so opulent, his opulence is covered by his sweetness. His beauty shines supremely sweet by the natural wonder of his loving exchanges with the residents of Sri Vrindavan . They consider him there darling child , he caresses the cows intimately having grown up with them . The cowherd boys jump on his back and run through the forests, tossing fruit at each other and some times catching milk sweets in there mouths, that their mothers have cooked. Krsna sometimes catches the glances of vrajadevis and he is also defeated just like his friends catch him unawares pushing him to the ground. He also falls over as if struck by cupids arrow, then he becomes stunned and pale trembling as if wounded by the vrajadevis sidelong glances.
Now we are here in Bharata varsha and Lord Krsna has appeared again as a wonderful devotee who is distributing his own love, the same love the vrajadevis have towards krsna. He is distributing this to all the fortunate souls who have fallen here in the material world by providences arrangement to participate in his Sankirtan movement . Don't delay hear this wonderful chanting of pure devotees, full of his mercy and become infected by their greed to obtain the true treasure of our hearts Krsna Bhakti, or real love that will never die!
CC Ādi 3.4 — “May the Supreme Lord who is known as the son of Śrīmatī Śacī-devī be transcendentally situated in the innermost core of your heart. Resplendent with the radiance of molten gold, He has descended in the Age of Kali by His causeless mercy to bestow what no incarnation has ever offered before: the most elevated mellow of devotional service, the mellow of conjugal love.”
By taking shelter of the holy name we can burn the previous reactions of past lives to ashes and reawaken our original loving tendency to the lord .
(Criticize, and Lose the Holy Name
by Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja
Bhagavat Saptah [Part 1]
Mathura, India: 1994 )
"Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura says that the very day Ajamila named his son Narayana, all his sins were finished – just by his first utterance of the holy name. After that, the rest of the holy names he called out constituted his sadhana. We see that all the while he was taking the name, he continued to act unlawfully – stealing, taking intoxication and so on. However, we should not consider his behavior at this point to be sinful. Yes, these activities were going on, but they had no power in them. You can understand it like this – if you put some peas in the ground, they will sprout and grow. Now roast some peas and try to grow them. Even if you fertilize the ground with many kilos of cow dung and give it plenty of water, they will not sprout. Similarly, all Ajamila’s sins were burned, simply by his calling out the names of Narayana. Now his unlawful activities, which seemed like lowly fruitive activities in the eyes of ordinary persons, no longer constituted sin. His activities can be compared with a snake whose poisonous teeth have been pulled out. The snake still continues to bite because it is his habit, but there is no more poison. Similarly, now Ajamila’s unlawful activities had no power to give any fruits to bind him. If a rope is burnt, its shape is still there in the ashes, but when one touches the ashes, the shape falls apart and cannot be used as a rope.
The result of Ajamila chanting the names of Lord Narayana was that he attained the association of the Visnudutas, who are associates of the Lord Himself, and inadvertently took diksa initiation from them. Up to that point his chanting was called nama-abhasa (the clearing stage of chanting), because whatever else he did, he had not committed any offences to a Vaisnava. He had not disrespected the Vaisnavas in this life or any previous life. By his nama-abhasa he received the association of the Visnudutas, who gave him diksa and explained to him the full glories of the holy names.
sadhu-sanga, nama-kirtana, bhagavata sravanam
mathura-vasa, sri-murtira sraddhaya sevana
sakala-sadhana srestha ei panca anga
krsna prema janmaye e panca
(CC Madhya 22.128-129)
Srila Rupa Gosvami has promised: “One should stay in Vrndavana under the guidance of a sadhu, chant the holy names, hear Srimad Bhagavatam from the lotus mouth of a rasika Vaisnava and serve the Deity of the Lord. There is no doubt that by performing these five activities one will surely receive krsna-prema.” However, there is one condition – there should be no disrespect or offence to the Vaisnava. "
