SUN'S POSITION OVERHEAD EXPLAINED
If you take calculations Without taking into account the Refraction and perspective of the Suns rays through the Atmosphere then you will erroneously come to the conclusion that the sun is only 3000 miles or less above the earths plane . Students of the Zeitetic method of observation who utilize trigonometry, prespucular rays etc in calculating the position of the sun based on the angle of the suns rays, completely disregard the effect of perspective and refraction through the atmosplane after it has travelled through space or ether .When we are performing a calculation based on a single environment we do not take into account variables that may be present in different environments , nevertheless when calculating the trajectory and position of an object by its linear position we need to take into account a change of trajectory and the perspective (we are like a fish in a fish bowl perceiving it from that perspective) that a projection on a different medium have on that object. In this case the suns rays and the sun discs perspective size as viewed from the dome or ceiling of air after it changes from the medium of outer space into the atmosplane of air and gases!

Flat earth research is ok, yet can be speculative in nature as many of us have seen the work we tend to become conditioned by that perspective .Ultimately the Srimad Bhagavatam explains that conditioned souls will not be able to describe the cosmology of the universe correctly, that is why it necessary to take information coming from its creator in disciplic succession .
SB 5.16.4 — The great ṛṣi Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: My dear King, there is no limit to the expansion of the Supreme Personality of Godhead’s material energy. This material world is a transformation of the material qualities [sattva-guṇa, rajo-guṇa and tamo-guṇa], yet no one could possibly explain it perfectly, even in a lifetime as long as that of Brahmā. No one in the material world is perfect, and an imperfect person could not describe this material universe accurately, even after continued speculation. O King, I shall nevertheless try to explain to you the principal regions, such as Bhūloka, with their names, forms, measurements and various symptoms.
"No one in the material world is perfect, and an imperfect person could not describe this material universe accurately, even after continued speculation."
That is why we take knowledge from perfected souls who are jnaninas tattva darsinah :
After all who would guess we are on a gigantic lotus flower !
SB 5.16.5 — The planetary system known as Bhū-maṇḍala resembles a lotus flower, and its seven islands resemble the whorl of that flower. The length and breadth of the island known as Jambūdvīpa, which is situated in the middle of the whorl, are one million yojanas [eight million miles]. Jambūdvīpa is round like the leaf of a lotus flower.
SB 5.24.1 — Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: My dear King, some historians, the speakers of the Purāṇas, say that 10,000 yojanas [80,000 miles] below the sun is the planet known as Rāhu, which moves like one of the stars. The presiding deity of that planet, who is the son of Siṁhikā, is the most abominable of all asuras, but although he is completely unfit to assume the position of a demigod or planetary deity, he has achieved that position by the grace of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Later I shall speak further about him.
SB 5.24.4 — Below Rāhu by 10,000 yojanas [80,000 miles] are the planets known as Siddhaloka, Cāraṇaloka and Vidyādhara-loka.
SB 5.24.5 — Beneath Vidyādhara-loka, Cāraṇaloka and Siddhaloka, in the sky called antarikṣa, are the places of enjoyment for the Yakṣas, Rākṣasas, Piśācas, ghosts and so on. Antarikṣa extends as far as the wind blows and the clouds float in the sky. Above this there is no more air.
SB 5.24.6 — Below the abodes of the Yakṣas and Rākṣasas by a distance of 100 yojanas [800 miles] is the planet earth. Its upper limits extend as high as swans, hawks, eagles and similar large birds can fly.
From Srila Visvanatha Cakravati Thakhurs commentary on canto 5 Srimad bhagavatam chapter 21 verse 2 we can understand the sun is 100000 yojans (800000 miles) above the plane of Bhumandala where it intersects the heaven and earth .
"|| 5.21.2 ||
etena hi divo maṇḍala-mānaṁ tad-vida upadiśanti yathā dvi-dalayor niṣpāvādīnāṁ te antareṇāntarikṣaṁ tad-ubhaya-sandhitam.
By the dimensions of Bhū-mandala experts indicate the dimension of the sky about the earth. They are like two halves of a bean seed. Antarikṣa joins the two together.
Niṣpāva is a type of bean, ādīnām indicates less specific seeds. Just as by seeing the dimension of one of the halves of the seed one can understand the dimension of the other half, one should consider the dimension of the earthly plane and the heavenly sphere to be the same. Between them is the antariksa, measuring 200,000 yojanas. It is joined to them on both its sides."
SB 5.21.2 — As a grain of wheat is divided into two parts and one can estimate the size of the upper part by knowing that of the lower, so, expert geographers instruct, one can understand the measurements of the upper part of the universe by knowing those of the lower part. The sky between the earthly sphere and heavenly sphere is called antarikṣa, or outer space. It adjoins the top of the sphere of earth and the bottom of that of heaven.
Then we have to take into account the distance to the suns orbit over and around Mt Manasottara.
While our head is up in the clouds contemplating these lofty topics don't let these ten things obscure your vision!(Ravanas 10 heads)
Ravana also wished to view the earth artificially from heaven by building a staircase to heaven but neither by our mind alone or material means will we be able to understand the absolute truth behind this material creation .

"Only unto those great souls who have implicit faith in both the Lord and the spiritual master are all the imports of Vedic knowledge automatically revealed." (Śvetasvatara Upanishada 6.23)
SUNSPOTS DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH EXPLAINED
Sun spots directly underneath the sun create the illusion the sun is close, even though it may be very far away. This can be explained easily, the sun globe which is explained by the Bhagavatam to be 10000 yojans across or 80000miles wide, will be seen to look directly overhead the clouds forming a spot below, due to the effect of, perspective of parallel symmetry. In other words, because from the perspective of whoever or whatever is perceiving the sunrays we are always in a direct line of sight , then even though the sun is seen to appear directly over the sunspot this will be an optical illusion. Unless one is directly underneath the sun. In which case the sun will be seen directly overhead while in the centre of the sunspot so you would not see a sunspot if you were standing directly underneath .Please see the diagram below to get a better idea of the concept of parallel symmetry of perspective. Please note it is not possible to actually see a side view this is simply a figurative image:
SB 12.4.24 — A lamp, the eye that views by the light of that lamp, and the visible form that is viewed are all basically nondifferent from the element fire. In the same way, intelligence, the senses and sense perceptions have no existence separate from the supreme reality, although that Absolute Truth remains totally distinct from them.
SB 5.24.2 — The sun globe, which is a source of heat, extends for 10,000 yojanas [80,000 miles]. The moon extends for 20,000 yojanas [160,000 miles], and Rāhu extends for 30,000 yojanas [240,000 miles]. Formerly, when nectar was being distributed, Rāhu tried to create dissension between the sun and moon by interposing himself between them. Rāhu is inimical toward both the sun and the moon, and therefore he always tries to cover the sunshine and moonshine on the dark-moon day and full-moon night.
